FAQs about Childhood Nutrition

One of the goals at Longwood Pediatrics is to help our patients thrive and enjoy optimal health. A key component to achieving one's best health is developing healthy eating habits. At our office in Lake Mary, our knowledgeable pediatricians, Dr. Jag Ambwani and Dr. Dolly Ubhrani, as well as Physician Assistant Nancy Zuker, can help your child make great food choices.

Do you provide guidance for children with special nutritional needs?

At Longwood Pediatrics in Lake Mary, our pediatricians do provide guidance for children with special nutritional needs. For example, we can help develop a nutritional plan for kids with diabetes or Celiac disease. We also provide assistance dealing with food sensitivities that could be contributing to a medical condition, such as an autoimmune illness, asthma, allergies, or eczema. Additionally, nutritional guidance is available for the parents of children affected by obesity.

Can you help develop a nutritional wellness plan for my baby?

It is our belief that healthy eating habits should begin at an early age. We can advise you on ways to help your child become a healthy eater from infancy. We can help develop a nutritional wellness plan that includes how and when to begin feeding your little one, what types of foods to stock your pantry with, and how you can influence your baby’s taste preferences. Recipes that are both nutritious and delicious are also available to help you establish healthy eating habits for your baby and the entire family.

Do you have any dietary recommendations I can implement right away?

There are many steps you take right away to promote healthier eating for the whole family. Some dietary recommendations that you can begin implementing immediately include:

  • Eating a diet filled with whole foods
  • Limiting the consumption of processed foods
  • Minimizing or eliminating processed sugars, including juice
  • Purchasing products that only contain ingredients you can pronounce
  • Buying organic foods to avoid exposure to pesticides, hormones, or chemicals

Establishing healthy eating habits for children from an early age helps encourage them to consume nourishing and nutritious foods for life.
