Prepare Your Child With School & Sports Physicals

When you're preparing your child for a return to the classroom, a pre-participation physical examination may be a top priority in today's hectic public health environment. At Longwood Pediatrics, Dr. Jag Ambwani and Dr. Dolly Ubhrani offer extensive school physicals and sports physicals in Longwood, FL, and serving the Lake Mary, Altamonte Springs, Sanford, and Maitland, FL, areas.

What You Should Expect

A common question we receive from parents is how extensive are physicals. More specifically, parents ask what we look for to help protect their children. Here are some of the most common exams we perform to protect your child's health:

  • Examine a child's heart and lungs
  • Vision checks
  • Blood pressure testing
  • Thoroughly examine muscles, joints, and check a child's posture and strength
  • Examine the throat, ears, and nose
  • Check the child's height and weight

At our location in Longwood, FL, and the areas we serve in Lake Mary, Altamonte Springs, Sanford, and Maitland, FL, we may perform additional exams during sports physicals and school physicals depending on the school district, county, and state requirements.

Dr. Ambwani and Dr. Ubhrani also provide valuable feedback, update any prescriptions, and most importantly prepare your child for optimal health and safety before they begin any school activities.

Difference Between A Sports Physical and A School Physical

Most schools require a wellness checkup before children can begin most sports or other school activities. However, many schools don't require a physical for a child to attend school. Although many school districts require that children receive certain vaccines, there is no universal wellness check requirement for children to attend classes.

Most physicals are the same exam but go by different names. Our doctors will examine children in the same manner — whether or not they plan to participate in activities. However, you can request a more extensive exam if your child plans to take part in athletics or other physical activities.

Before You Schedule Your Child's Appointment

Be prepared to let us know about any over-the-counter medications your child is taking, and also prepare a list of your most important health concerns regarding your child. Ask as many questions as you like, but also be ready to answer any questions our doctors and staff have about your child's health.

At Longwood Pediatrics, the mission of Dr. Ambwani and Dr. Ubhrani is to protect the health and well-being of your child before the start of the new school year.
